Homer Street School provides a safe and nurturing environment that affords all our students with the unique opportunity to develop their academic skills as well as their social and emotional proficiencies. It is the aspiration of this school to instruct our students in a culture of equity and proficiency so that they will become productive members of society. We plan to prepare all our students to experience success in school and beyond.

Although at Homer Street our emphasis is focused on English Language Arts and Mathematics with a sincere concentration on writing, we believe that all curricula must be endowed to supply the students with an all-encompassing schema. To accomplish this undertaking we have integrated Science, Social Studies, Art, Music, and Physical Education at all levels. Staff members hone their skills with targeted professional development designed to meet their individual requirements, allowing the strategies practiced by the staff at Homer allow all students to reach their optimum potential. The school has taken significant strides since 2010 to improve in all areas of instruction and has moved the school out of Level 4. At Homer Street School our motto is proudly displayed on our marque, ;Read to Understand, Write to be Understood.

We will use a collaborative approach with all stakeholders to enhance instruction around increasingly complex texts, engaging in close reading strategies, and responding to text dependent questions with a strong emphasis on utilizing content vocabulary orally and in writing across the curriculum.
